The 10th SURE Summer School was successfully held from August 1 to 7, 2026, in Shanghai, China
The 10th Summer School on Urban Ecology, organized by the Society for Urban Ecology (SURE), was successfully held from August 1 to 7, 2026, at Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Minhang Campus. Co-organized by Professor Junxiang Li (Shanghai Jiao Tong University, School of Design), Associate Professor Feng Mao (University of Warwick), and SURE President Professor Jürgen Breuste, the summer school was co-hosted by the SURE China Chapter, the Ecological Society of China and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, with Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s School of Design as the host institution.
Focusing on “Urban Ecology and Human Habitat Health”, the event presented and discussed cutting-edge knowledge, advanced methodologies of urban ecology and environmental health, and the application of nature-based solutions to urban ecological and environmental issues. Its schedule included registration and ice-breaking, opening ceremony, specialized lectures, student roundtables and closing certificate-awarding ceremony.
The summer school enrolled 81 participants in total: 35 in-person and 46 online, from 40 universities and research institutions worldwide. These include the University of Warwick (UK), Politecnico di Milano (Italy), Universiti Malaya (Malaysia), multiple institutions in China (the University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China, Tsinghua University, Fudan University and other domestic universities). Participants had academic backgrounds in ecology, environmental science and engineering, landscape architecture, urban-rural planning, and geography.
